Note: In addition to obtaining correct information about non-hazardous cosmetics from TBS, cosmetics merchants also need to register all cosmetics on sale on the shelf to confirm their quality and safety.

The regulations and standards of the Tanzania cosmetics industry are designed to ensure that any health-related and unsafe products will not be imported, manufactured, stored and used for sale or gift unless it meets existing national or international standards.

Therefore, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) hopes that all traders engaged in the cosmetics business will prove to the bureau that the beauty products they operate are safe and healthy. "The information from TBS will guide traders to remove toxic and harmful cosmetics from their shelves in order to prevent these products from circulating in the local market," said Mr. Moses Mbambe, TBS Food and Cosmetics Registration Coordinator.

According to the 2019 Finance Act, TBS is obliged to carry out publicity activities on the impact of toxic cosmetics and conduct temporary inspections on all cosmetics sold to ensure that harmful products disappear from the local market.

In addition to obtaining correct information about non-hazardous cosmetics from TBS, cosmetics merchants also need to register all cosmetics on sale on the shelf to confirm their quality and safety.

According to the African Trade Research Center, most cosmetics used in the local market in Tanzania are imported. This is why TBS should strengthen control to ensure that the beauty products entering the domestic market meet national standards.
